- What images move me emotionally?
- Images about love and family always resinate with me, making me think about the people I love and consider family. I love looking at images of my family, friends, or myself. Seeing joy and happiness, or any emotion can spark that emotion in myself when I see it on someone I have a relationship with.
- When an image affects my emotional state, does the image hold power over me in some way?
- Power can be used as a broad/vague word or it can be taken very seriously. When an image affects my emotional state, yes it has vaguely held power over me by changing my emotion and becoming engrained into my memory and mind. But the image has no serious power over me to hinder or force me to act in a new way.
- Is it the image itself or its context that gives the image its power?
- The context of an image is what brings life and meaning to a photo. Observers can create an explicit story line by looking at a photo and this is what will cultivate new emotions.
Concepts
- Listening through observation and action not voice, i.e. Listening with our eyes and bodies
- As teachers we have the power to view children literally and figuratively from above. We have more knowledge and experience so we can see the positive and negative mistakes or accomplishments that a child experiences in the classroom. We need to learn how to observe children in their actions, creations, and experimentations so that we can become better listeners and educators.
- Art as healing
- Art has the power to heal. Art is free for exploration. Art has the power to be anything anyone wants it to be. Art can be used to cope with emotions, sharing an individual's emotions with what they create instead of through verbal communication. Art can be used as a social practice, engaging with others and learning how to act in a social setting simply through creating art together. Students with mental, physical or social injuries/disabilities will highly benefit from art therapy.
- Freedom to create without judgment
- In an education setting, teachers encourage children to be create and imaginative; however, in many cases teachers use their power to subconsciously sway what a child creates. Teachers need to learn how to control their power so that children do not feel coerced to create what the teacher expects or desires, but what the child has uniquely decided he or she wants to create on his or her own.
Concept Project
- Practicing yoga, keeping eyes closed, breathing & asana meditation.
- Then I will have different water colors and large papers for people to create a mural of what they envisioned or focused on during the guided meditation.
